Hi Everyone,

I just had the wonderful opportunity to participate in an amazing workshop this weekend, “Bruce Lee’s JKD take over Manhattan” hosted by Chris Moran. It was an intense workshop that delved deeply into the fundamentals of the JKD style of martial arts that went beyond kicks and punches. Through a series of intricate sequences, it allowed my to focus on my own technique as I paid careful attention to all the minute details to create a better understanding of each movement. It reminded me of my time during teacher training as I spent long hours during practicums that allowed me to focus on the minute details of each from to create a greater understanding of the alignment & breath of each yoga pose. However, like all long trainings & practices, I woke up the next day feeling tired & sore with the need to stretch out the entire body. So what was one of the first things I did after getting up? Yep, Adho Mukha Svanasana or Downward Facing Dog. A fundamental pose used throughout many yoga sequences, it is sometimes referred to as an “active” resting pose that stretches out the entire body. Whenever I do this pose, I can feel the soreness & tension release throughout my whole body. Not only does this pose strengthen & stretch the upper & lower body, it helps provide balance of the body & mind to calm the brain & relieve stress & mild depression. Downward Facing Dog also strengthens the arms & legs, while stretching the shoulders, hamstrings, calves, hands & the inner arches of the feet, energizing the body. This pose can also help improve digestion & relieve menstrual discomfort, headaches, insomnia, back pain & fatigue. It can also be therapeutic for symptoms of menopause, high blood pressure, asthma, flat feet, sciatica, & sinusitis. So join me this week as we continue with the fundamentals as we stretch & strengthen our entire body.
