Shall we open ourselves up in order to spring forward?

Join me today as I will be subbing Yoga for Athletes at 5pm @ Studio in the Heights, then off to tonight’s Vinyasa Level 1 class @ 7:30pm - 8:30pm at MBSY.

Hi Everyone,

As we come to the end of April and enter May, spring is finally in full swing. With warmer temperatures finally upon us and the trees & flowers coming into bloom, what more can we possibly ask for after such a frigid winter. However, with the blooms of spring surrounding us comes the onslaught of seasonal allergies. I myself have been caught by sneezing attacks, causing my nasal passages to become blocked, making it difficult to breathe. When this happens, the breath can become shallow & disrupted causing my chest to collapse & the muscles on the sides of the body to become tense. What to do when this happens? Work on stretching the front, back & sides of the torso to help combat these effects. One such pose that comes to mind is Dhanurasana or Bow Pose. This is a wonderful pose helps to open the entire front body from the top of shoulders all the way to the hips & psoas while strengthening the back muscles & improves postures. It also helps to strength the quads while stimulating the organs of the abdomen & neck. With the opening of the entire chest, Bow Pose can also help to relieve chest congestion that is caused by allergies. With all these wonderful benefits, what better pose to combat the effects of the allergy season as we transition from April to May.
