Wow is it hot outside. I hope everyone has been staying cool. I had originally planned to continue to work on challenging sequences to work the core & balance, but as the temperature skyrockets, it has caused me to rethink how I wish to lead class this week. Instead, I have decided to incorporate a slower, more focused practice in class with poses that can help cool the body. Not only that but also breathing techniques that not only cool but also calm. One breathing technique that comes to mind is Nadi Shodhana Pranayama, or Alternate Nostril Breathing. Nadi Shodhana Pranayama can be one of the most effective ways to even out the breath while bringing balance to the body & mind. Alternate Nostril Breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system that can help reduce blood pressure. It can also help to increase respiratory strength & endurance, and improve focus & coordination. Finally, by beginning the breath through the left nostril, not only does it help to calm the mind but also cool the body. So join me this week as we work to create coolness & calm in this scorching heat.
