In observance of Columbus Day, there will be no class tomorrow, Monday, October 8th. Stretch’n Flow yoga class resumes on Tuesday @ 6:30pm – 7:30 pm, Keystone Dance Studio @ 252 W. 30th St., #4B.

Hi Everyone,

Has autumn finally arrived???? Just for a moment I though it did, lo and behold, the warm & humid temps of summer has something else to say. The constant unpredictable shift in weather can cause tension in the body & mind, doing a number on our nervous system. What to do? Working on Breath or Pranayama that can relax the body & calm the mind, one in particular is the 2:1 ratio breathing technique. I have introduced this breathing technique many times throughout class, but it is my go to when I feel especially anxious or unbalanced. This is a breathing practice which involves lengthening your exhales until it is twice as long as you inhales. By doubling the length of your exhales, not only does it release carbon dioxide & toxins from the body, it also allows tension to ease from the body bringing a restorative response to calm the nervous system. Finally, this technique can help reduce insomnia, sleep disturbance and release anxiety. So join me this week as we continue to find ways to bring calmness to the body and mind.
