Hi Everyone,

I’ve recently read a wonderful article, A Deeper Look into the word “Retreats”, dated April 22, 2017 by Jelayna Da Silva on http://www.happygirlyoga.com/yoga-fitness/2017/4/22/a-deeper-look-into-the-word-retreats. In this article, she examines what the word “retreat” & its connotations meant to her. At first, she writes of how her immediate association was of armies & knights from old-time cartoons and Monty Python movies retreating from battle, lending the word “retreat” to be seen as not a good thing. But as she delve deeper into its meaning, she writes of how the “word retreat can be associated with the idea of “giving up” some aspects of your life that no longer serve you, and finding the courage to do so.” Of how she could find herself ‘addicted to the adrenaline of busyness’ until she was running on fumes leading to a “crash and burn”, and when that happens, “sometimes retreating is the only option.” It was this particular part of the article that really spoke to me & I was reminded of my resolve to slow down, make time for myself & step out of my comfort zone.

Last year, I too was running on fumes as I worked crazy hours that left my body overly tired and my mind hazy & lethargic. It was during the summer when I realized that I needed to allow myself to retreat from my daily life to re-evaluate & re-charge. So I packed my bags & headed to the South of France to attend my very first yoga retreat at the Domaine de Mournac. My time there was transformative as I experienced a way of life very different from the fast paced world of NYC. Surrounded by the beauty & tranquility of the surrounding woodlands among the Pyrenees Mountains, I had the privilege to meet a wonderful group of people, some of who I still remain in contact, who not only inspired but also encouraged me to follow my dreams. I had attended daily yoga classes to help release tension & bring movement back to my tired body allowing me to re-find my practice. I was able to savor the delicious foods skillfully prepared by our personal retreat chef, soak in the sun as I relaxed by the inviting pool, & engage in lively conversations while sharing experiences in camaraderie with my fellow participants. But most importantly, I was able to find the much-needed quiet time to just be. Every moment was a gift to cherish as I learned to slow down & reconnect with myself. It was my desire to share this amazing experience with others that led to my decision to host my very first yoga retreat, “Vin & Vinyasa” at the Domaine de Mournac. So I invite you to resolve to find the retreat that works best for you. So whether it is joining me in the South of France or finding a quiet place to make time for yourself, may you find the retreat that speaks to you.
