February has certainly started out with a bang, beginning with the Lunar New Year of the Pig and slowly entering into the season of love with Valentine’s Day. I have always found February to be a month of resetting goals & resolutions while we continue to open our hearts to the possibilities that are still to come. Last month, I had incorporated a lot of belly backbends throughout class. Not only did these postures help to generate heat throughout the body, but they also worked to open the heart to help expand the lungs. So to honor the month of February, I wish to continue with these practices, but take it a step further with more heart-openers. With that in mind, expect poses like Dhanurasana or Bow Pose, Ustrasana or Camel Pose, Matsyasana or Fish Pose, or Urdhva Dhanurasana or Upward Bow/ Wheel to make an appearance throughout the month. These are great poses to help open the entire front body while strengthening the back muscles & improves postures. However, bare in mind, because these posture are intense heart openers & back bends, it is important to come into these poses slowly & with a great deal of care. So join me this week as we continue to open our hearts to the possibilities to come.
