Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone is enjoying the wonderful reprieve we are having from the wet & cold that has been the constant weather of late. This sudden shift in weather has left me with the desire to stay outdoors and bask in the sunlight & warmth. However, with this warmth comes the onslaught of allergy season at its strongest. As many of you know, I have been putting a great deal of emphasis on opening up the whole body, especially the chest, in class the last few weeks. By working to stretch the front, back, and sides of the torso, we work on combating the effects of allergies that can make it difficult to breathe & cause our chest to collapse when the sides of the body become tense. But it doesn’t stop there. Did you also know, inversions can also help? Inversions are a great way to help to open the nasal passages & improve drainage by opening the muscles at the base of the skull & back of the neck where pressure can accumulate, allowing the muscles to loosen. With that said, expect to find more heart openers & inversions that not only help to combat the effects of allergies but also complement each other. Yoga poses like Salamba Sarvangasana or Supported Shoulder Stand, Halasana or Plow Pose, or Matsyasana or Fish Pose are a few such examples. So join me this week as we continue to open & invert the body in our ongoing battle with allergies.

P.S. I am happy to announce that I will be back teaching at the New York Road Runners’ Run Center this Sunday, May 26th @ 11am- noon. Class is free! Register here:
