Hi Everyone,

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is just around the corner? Where did the month go? Soon there will be a mad dash to leave the city to travel far and wide to be with family and friends with a Thanksgiving feast before them. But before you rush off to enjoy all the yummy foods, perhaps we could prepare our bodies not only for the onslaught of food to come but the stress that comes along with holiday travel. So with that in mind, allow me to reintroduce poses with a twist to not only challenge our bodies but also help with digestion and relieve tension. Therefore, the “Feature Yoga Pose of the Week” will be Parivrtta Prasarita Padottanasana or Revolved Wide Leg Standing Forward Fold. This yoga pose helps to stretch the hamstrings, calves, hips, lower back & spine. It also helps to stretch & strengthen the upper back & shoulders releasing any additional tension on neck & shoulders… something I need when dealing with the stress of travel. This pose also opens the hips, an area that tends to hold tension, thereby relieving stress, anxiety & mild depression helping to calm the mind. Lastly, as this is a pose with a twist through the torso, it helps keep the spine healthy & flexible while massaging the organs of the abdomen releasing toxins & cleansing the organs while helping to improve & regulate digestion & metabolism. With all these benefits, it is no wonder I chose Revolved Wide Leg Standing Forward Fold as the “Feature Yoga Pose of the Week” after a week of Thanksgiving yummy goodness?
