Hi Everyone,
It certainly has taken a turn to the frigid this past weekend. Did I hear correctly that snow is on its way on Tuesday?! I don’t know about you, but it has certainly created a lot of tightness around my hips causing my ever-present knee issues to act up. As I continue to get older, my knees have been a constant source of discomfort due to many past injuries. Therefore, it is very important for me to continue to work on opening & strengthening the inner & outer hips, thereby keeping myself mobile & strong. Last week, I had incorporated the Revolved Crescent Lunge to open up the hip flexors & quads while improving posture & digestion. This week, I’d like to continue along this route while giving special attention to the outer hips with the return of Eka Pada Rajakapotasana or Pigeon Yoga Pose. This is a truly great hip opening yoga pose that opens the hip flexor & rotator muscles, psoas, & groin. It can also relieve sciatic nerve tension & lower back pain, & stretch the front & back leg. It can also be a pose to relieve a lot of stress as the hips are thought to be an area we tend to hold emotion & tension as well as helping to release tension on the knees. Last but not least, this pose also helps to stimulate the abdominal organs that can aid in digestion. So join me this week as we continue to strengthen our hips & release tension.
