Hi Everyone,

As July ends and we enter August, the last month of summer, I’d like to honor all the wonderful warriors I have had the pleasure to guide who have been steadfast in their practice, especially in this stifling heat. What better way then with Virabhadrasana I or Warrior I? This is a powerful yoga pose that represents the warrior named Virabhadra, created from a lock of hair from the Hindu God, Shiva. In his grief after the death of his wife, Sati, Shiva had ordered Virabhadra to destroy the powerful priest Dasha, Sati’s father, & his guest who he blamed for the cause of her death. Warrior I pose represents his arrival with swords in both hands. It is no wonder that this powerful pose not only strengthens but also stretches the shoulders, arms, legs, ankles & back while opening the chest & lungs, hips & psoas muscles. It also encourages good circulation & respiration while improving focus, balance & stability resulting in the entire body to be energized. So join me this week as Warrior I & its variations make its many appearances.
