Hi Everyone,

How has the first week back from summer been treating you? I don’t know about you but with the return to my regularly scheduled routine combined with the slight change in weather these past few days I have felt my body feeling a bit sluggish. As I sit, writing this post, I can’t help but think of ways to bring not only my body but also mind back from the brink of lethargy. One thing that comes to mind is to find strong yoga poses that help to energize the body & give focus. Then I remember some of my favorite yoga poses. What are they? The Virabhadrasana yoga poses. If you recall, last month I had paid tribute to all the wonderful warriors I have had the pleasure to guide who have been steadfast in their practice. This month, I’d like to continue to give tribute to the warrior with a pose that strengthens the body while opening the heart. With that in mind we return to Shanti Virabhadrasana or Peaceful/Reverse Warrior. A variation of Warrior II, this is a great transitional pose that not only strengthens but also stretches the arms, shoulders, legs, hips, groin, & thighs. As Peaceful Warrior is also a gentle backbend, this pose improves the flexibility of the back muscles, helping to relieve back pain, while opening the chest & lengthening the torso & spine. So join me this week as we find strength and openness in our practice.
