I hope you are enjoying the long holiday weekend & the unofficial start of summer. I will be out of town for some much needed R&R. I will be back to teach my regularly schedule classes starting on Tuesday. Though it may seem summer has arrived, don’t be fooled, we are still in the height of spring & allergy season. So in our continued effort to do battle with the effects of allergies, we will end the month of May with another great inversion, Halasana or Plow Pose. Halasana is a great pose that stretches the spine, back & shoulders while opening the muscles at the base of the skull & back of the neck, a place we tend to hold tension, causing pressure to accumulate. By loosens these muscles, Plow Pose can help to clear drainage, while releasing tension to calm & relax the brain, nerves, & heart, reducing stress & fatigue. While in this posture, the abdomen is compressed to help massage & tone the digestive organs, improving detoxification, stimulating the thyroid gland, and regulates the breath. This pose helps to increase circulation, rejuvenating the body while preparing the body for relaxation. This pose can also be therapeutic for backache, headaches, infertility, insomnia, & sinusitis. Halasana is a great prepatory pose for Salamba Sarvangasana or Supported Shoulder Stand. Yep, you’ve guessed it, not only will we be working on Halasana but also towards a full Supported Shoulder Stand without blocks.
